I was having a discussion one day in the lounge of the YMCA back in 2018. I had lived at the YMCA during this year and oftentimes got into discussions on various topics. During this particular discussion, a question was asked. The question was; “what would happen to the world in the future?” As in are we going to survive? One suggested maybe one superpower will take over everything one day.
Both seemed to be in agreement that one day everything would be run by one country.
I said to them I don’t think that would ever happen. Can I explain why? They said sure.
I said the world will never be run by one country because we need different cultures, different food, different music and dance, and different people. We need different literature, poetry philosophies, and religions. We need different languages and sports and different places to go. Places to travel and learn about different histories of the many cultures around the world.
Thanks be to God and Goddess that we have variation and differences between our cultures. We should be thankful for the differences we have.
Our differences between cultures truly make the world more interesting. Could you imagine what the world would be like if everyone was the same? Same people, same food, same books, same music, same dance, same art, and so on!
But luckily we don’t live in a world like that. We have many differences between cultures. And that I think is a good thing. Variety is the spice of life. We are rich in cultures and that is the kind of richness we need.
So when I explained this to them they both then agreed with me. That gives me encouragement to tell it to you.
Thank you!
